Identity

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

I just watched this presentation on identity on the online world.. The speak brings up some good points and offers a solution, I’m not sure I’d be willing to implement it right now, but if a few big Web 2.0 companies jump on the band wagon I might:

NZ Voice Over IP Service Proivder For SALE

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

So! I’ve decided that due to time constrants imposed by the new venture here in California that I’m going to have to sell 0064.co.nz, its a shame, its got a great deal of potential as a business, but needs a lot more dedication than I can provide at the moment.

New Mac

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

So I’m in the states after my first week of work over here, we now have a plan to go forward with our ideas, and now starts the research to see if we can achieve what we want to.

I’m blogging this from my new MacBook Pro using a rather cool piece of software that appears on my Mac Dash and allows direct posting to the blog, so expect much more in the way of updates!!

While I’m on the subject of technology, I’ve also been making great use of TomTom Navigator 6 in my Ford Taurus, I love paper maps, but theres nothing like an autorouting, moving map GPS system to keep you on the right track in a new city when driving down the wrong side of the road ;)

I’ve also been making fantastic use of www.0064.co.nz’s voice over IP service to keep in touch with Liz, thanks to us having broadband and a Sipura 2100 ATA with a DECT cordless handset at home I’ve been making free calls to NZ with crystal clear quality, I’m not surte I want to go back to normal telephony after this!

I’ve also invested in a PAYG SIM on the Cingular network, when I say SIM I actually mean SIM and a dodgy Motorola Hanset for a grand total of 30 Dollars, obviously the SIM is now in my K800 ;) I should be getting a work mobile shortly, again on Cingular, but most proberbly a Motorola Razr3 handset. Now if the US rolled on 3G I’d be happy…

Right, I have a bottle of Matua Valey Pinot Nior that been waiting since 2004 for someone to drink it, so I’d better go and make it happy!!!

New XFM server

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

XFM seem to have decided to limit the streaming service to UK residents only by asking for a postcode on the website, luckily for me, I’ve located the actual server which opens up the stream just fine on my Pocket PC:

Woosh Upgrade

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Wosh have carried out an upgrade to the service resulting in download speeds jumping from around 100Kb/s to 180Kb/s which means I now reach the 10Gb data cap even more quickly now :(

Woosh Wireless

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

After a lot of investigation in to the various services for broadband in New Zealand I went out and picked up a Woosh wireless modem from Newmarket DSE on a 10Gb/month contract.  It gives us the ability to be able to move around within the coverage area and means we don’t need to sign up for a POTS line or ADSL service untill we work out where we will live.

So far I’ve found it great, pretty fast (~100Kbytes/sec from USA sites) the latency is a little high (around 150ms within NZ, and 350-400ms to US) but this was expected with a wireless service, it is consistant so have been able to sucessfully use VOIP with www.0064.co.nz.

Avocent to aquire Cyclades

Friday, January 27th, 2006

From a Cyclades press release on the website it seems Avocent have acquired them for $90m. I’d heard a rumour that something like this was to happen, but wasn’t expecting it to happen so soon. I wonder what the plan is now? Will Avocent integrate Cyclades technology in to their current platform?? Will Avocent take the customers and drop the technology? What will John and Daniel do? So many questions…. Maybe I should have stuck around a little longer to find the answers.

Yahoo! HK trouble again

FCC to Yahoo: No Excuse For Being an Accomplice - HK.COM blog central
Not sure what is going on in Yahoo HK, I can’t help wondering if the recent joining of Yahoo and Alibaba is something to do with this. After visiting Yahoo in Beijing, I get the feeling that was for political reasons, not business. Maybe my trip to Hong Kong Taiwan next week will through up some interesting inormation.
